The idea to make a fan of a certain color and texture with one's own hands arose due to the fact that there was nothing on sale that was more or less suitable for an image thought out to the smallest detail. Here is what came of it =))
For work, we need:
- Glue gun with glue stick.
- Wide (20 centimeters) lace for stockings suitable for us color - 50cm
It is necessary to take lace with the processed beautiful edge, the beauty of our finished fan directly depends on it.
- sharp scissors, as an option - a blade (I have both)
- a small roll of adhesive tape (I have a masking tape)
- any fan with the base of a suitable color and fabric that can be easily removed from it. (I have the easiest wooden one bought on the market for $ 1.5 - 2)
1. To begin with, we will remove from our freshly bought fan the fabric that we do not need in the future, carefully so as not to damage the base.
2. Open our base with a “fan” to an angle of about 150 degrees, evenly distributing the sticks relative to each other and gently fasten them in this position with thin strips of tape as close to the top as possible. This procedure will facilitate our further work, the fan will keep the desired shape, which is very convenient when attaching the fabric.
3. We put the fan on the table with tape down, apply lace to the base and measure its width, it should go from the very top to the base of the thin part of each stick, without going into the wide one. Having finished the measurement, if necessary, cut the lace to the width we need.
4.We arm ourselves with a glue gun and gently tuck the side of the lace and glue it to the first stick, then align the lace to the next stick No. 2 and carefully make an incision of the lace exactly in the place that falls in the middle of stick No. 2 from the very bottom and not reaching 2 cm to the top of the fan. We lay the glue line on the stick No. 2 with a gun and fix the lace cut, put the free part of the lace on the fixed cut, releasing a small wedge in the direction of the stick No. 1 and press with our fingers to the still warm glue on the stick No. 2. The excess part of the wedge is carefully cut as close as possible to the sizing line.
5. In the same way we do with each subsequent stick, carefully monitoring that the upper part of the lace on the fan lies beautifully and without creases.
6. Having finished laying lace on the base of the fan, we need to remove our adhesive tape from the wrong side, we will no longer need it. If the lace is very stretched, then in the place where we had the tape, on the top of the fan from the wrong side, you can glue a thin silicone cord. I did without it.
