How to make a pocket with a trim barrel

Pockets with a trimmed barrel look great on trousers and skirts. Entrances to pockets can be decorated with contrasting piping, piping or buttons. To carry out such a pocket is quite simple.

Consider a pocket with a trimmed barrel as an example of a straight tweed skirt. Usually this step is performed primarily after cutting the main parts of the product.

For two pockets you will need:

- front panel of the skirt;
- 2 burlap pockets, one-piece with a barrel, from the main fabric;
- 2 burlap sacks made of lining fabric;
- a slanting inlay 4 cm wide from lining fabric.

Step 1

On the front panel of the skirt, from the wrong side, duplicate the pocket entries with strips of non-woven fabric.

Step 2

Lay burlap pockets of lining fabric on the front panel of the skirt with the front side to the front side, aligning the lines of the entrances into the pockets. Pin or sweep.

Step 3

Lay a line along the entry line into your pocket, taking into account the stock allowance. In this case, the allowance is 1.5 cm.

Step 4

Unscrew the burlap pockets on the wrong side of the skirt panel with a small ribbed 1-2 mm wide (so that the burlap of the pocket is not visible from the front). Sweep and iron.

From the inside, along the burlap along the line of entry into the pocket, lay a manual finishing line that will play both a decorative and a utilitarian role - fix the allowance so that the burlap does not turn out.
To smoothly lay a line, use a ruler to mark the stitch places with a disappearing marker. We lay small stitches with a width of 2-3 mm at a distance of about 1 cm from each other with a seam “back and forth needle”.

Tip: the line of entry into the pocket can be delayed by stepping back from the seam of the ground burlap 1-2 mm.

Put burlap pockets, one-piece with a barrel, from the main fabric onto the burlap sacks from the lining fabric, the front side to the front side, combining the rounded sections of the burlap, the side lines and the waist line.

Along the round sections of burlap lay oblique inlay face down, chopped with pins or sweep.

Step 8

On the allowances of burlap, lay a line, capturing both burlap and inlay.

Step 9

To iron the inlay for the allowance, bend its second section and round the allowance. Pin with pins and sweep. Iron.

Step 10

Sew from the front into the seam, grabbing the inlay from the inside. Iron. Cut the excess allowance from the inside.

This is how the pockets from the inside will look. This processing method is suitable for pockets in unlined skirts, in items made of crumbling fabric or if it is not possible to sew over the allowance.

At the end of the work on the skirt, sew buttons on the line of the entrances to the pockets, placing them symmetrically.The upper button can be sewn, grabbing through the burlap of the pocket and the lining, so that the pocket does not sag under the weight of the buttons.
