One of the easiest ways to make a rug (and even a carpet!) With your own hands is to sew it from a suitable fabric. Your attention - 3 options for how to make a doormat from a do-it-yourself fabric.

1. Two-layer fabric rug

This rug is sewn from 2 different types of fabric. Even if you plan to make a small rug, it is better to take dense material. So that the mat does not slip, it is better to put a piece of rubber mesh under it.

You will need:

- two types of dense fabric;

- ruler;

- roller knife and mat mat;

- rubber anti-slip mesh;

- iron;

- sewing machine and thread.

Do-it-yourself carpets and rugs: 4 workshops and 20 ideas

Step 1

Cut out two identical parts of the rug from two types of fabric. Their size is the size of the desired mat + 2.5 cm allowances.

Step 2

Edges of details can be processed on an overlock or a zigzag.

Step 3

Fold the parts with their sides inward and sew along the perimeter, stepping back from the edge of 2.5 cm and leaving a hole for turning out (here the width of the hole is 25 cm).

Step 4

Cut corners.

Step 5

Turn out the mat, straighten the seams and iron.

Step 6

Sew in the hole.

Step 7

To prevent the mat from slipping, you can use a rubber backing - cut out a part of it that is slightly smaller than the mat and place it under the mat.

2. Rug sewn from fabric and backing

This rug is sewn from one layer of fabric, to which a rubber substrate is sewn. Therefore, it is better to use materials thicker for it, for example, upholstery fabric, tapestry fabric and so on.

You will need:

- material for the rug;

- rubber backing;

- tailor pins;

- scissors;

- sewing machine and thread.

Mat from old jeans: a master class

Step 1

Cut 2 identical pieces - from the fabric for the mat and from the backing material. Dimensions = dimensions of the future rug + allowances for turning edges.

Step 2

Tuck the edges, pin with pins. If the edges of the fabric crumble, it is better to process them with a zigzag.

Step 3

Sew the stitches by sewing in the hem. Do not attach corners.

Step 4

Cut corners as shown in the photo and sew separately. Done.

3. Fabric mat and rubber backing

This rug is three-layer: the two upper layers are fabric, the lower one is an anti-slip substrate. It is trimmed with edging around the edges - this method works as a trim, it is also convenient when sewing a rug from thick, dense materials.

You will need:

- fabric for the rug;

- fabric for laying;

- anti-slip rubber substrate;

- fabric for processing inlay;

- tailor pins;

- scissors;

- iron;

- sewing machine and thread.

Step 1

Cut 3 identical parts: from the fabric of the rug, the material of the interlayer and the rubber backing.The size of the part is equal to the size of the future rug.

Step 2

Fold the layers one on top of another and align. In several places, pin the layers with pins, fixing them relative to each other.

Step 3

Cut 4 strips of edging from the fabric for edging. Their length is 4-5 cm longer than the sides of the rug, which need to be processed. Width - according to your desire, in this case 10 cm.

Step 4

Fold the strips and iron in a slanting fashion.

Step 5

Trim the edges of the mat. First process two opposite edges. Then sew the tape onto the sides perpendicular to the already finished.
