Airy, natural material - an excellent alternative to the famous silk chiffon, capricious and difficult to sew. Batiste - the fabric is plastic and light, like chiffon, but at work it is much more obedient.

Batiste is cotton and silk. The latter, as a rule, in composition - 70% cotton, 30% silk. Silk threads give the fabric shine and it flows like a chiffon. Batiste drapes well and lies beautifully in folds.
In some stores, unfortunately, there is a practice not to cut, but to tear the fabric. In no case do not buy such a cut - the thread direction is violated and the cut is oblique. And to even out this blemish, you have to cut 3-5 cm of fabric. Therefore, buy a cambric only where it and other delicate fabrics are cut along an elongated thread from the canvas.
Before cutting Be sure to roll the cambric in warm water. It can shrink up to 10% (remember this when calculating the required footage). And if the fabric is colored or with a pattern, decating will help you learn about the durability of paints. After decaping, the cambric is better not to squeeze. Dry flattened.

Finished products from Batista wash in the car in a delicate wash mode. For cotton, any of modern powders is suitable, for example, Ariel (for light fabrics - any type except Color & style, the last - for colored fabrics). For silk, it is better to use washing powder for delicate washing, for example, Dreft. Temperature mode - 40 ° C. The spin function is better off.
Dry things are flattened or on a hanger. Iron - in the "silk" mode with a steamer, as the cambric is very wrinkled.
Expert Opinion
The moderator of our site, an engineer-technologist of sewing production, a teacher of sewing, Svetlana Khatskevich, gives our readers some more valuable recommendations on caring for products from batista:
Although the cambric is cotton fabric, it is the most delicate material of this family. Therefore it requires more respect. Otherwise, it will quickly wear out and fail.
So, we decorate and wash it at lower temperatures and in a gentle mode, using delicate detergents (I personally prefer Dreft: thanks to its special composition, it retains its shape and color better). A thing from a cambric can be washed in a mesh case, if you have a car wash.
If the cambric is colored, then it can fade and quickly lose color. To prevent this from happening, at the last rinse we add 1 tbsp. To the water. spoon of 9% vinegar and wring the thing in a towel, preventing water from leaking. Iron in a slightly damp condition. Of course use Dreft also help the case.
Since the cambric is a very thin fabric, it is better grind off its French seam without overlock, like any transparent and thin fabrics. To strengthen the parts, use the thinnest adhesive pads, as for chiffon, otherwise the glue may appear in the form of dots on the front side of the part.
