The A-silhouette was designed by Christian Dior back in 1955. The great fashion designer changed the cut line of the famous dress-a-line by Cristobal Balenciaga.
60s: hot and stylish! Burda Special Project 07/2019
A-line
Dior made it less broad, almost straight, but at the same time retained the freedom of the model. The dress, uniformly expanding downward, resembled the letter “A”. After the emphasized thin waist and magnificent skirts of the Diorovsky "New Look" fashionistas adopted a very cool loose silhouette of the dress. But the turbulent 60s turned almost everything upside down, including fashion. Youth is the main consumer of fashion, and therefore a new source of inspiration for designers.
In the photo: A-silhouette dress "Mondrian" 1965The first to present the A-line mini-dress to the discerning public was Yves Saint Laurent. Inspired by the work of Dutch abstract artist Pete Mondrian, he created the Mondrian collection, which included seven different versions of a simple knit A-line dress in color-blocking style. The collection was a tremendous success, and the models instantly gained popularity not only among celebrities. Bright mini-dresses of A-silhouette appeared in the wardrobe of almost every girl of that time.

Dress out of time
In the 80s, the boom in A-line dresses almost completely exhausted itself. But the next awakening of this universal model was in the two thousandth. And today we can see a small dress of a simple cut in almost every collection at a fashion show. It wanders from season to season, flowing smoothly from one modern fabric to another, each time appearing in front of us in a new version, of different lengths, painted with paradise flowers, decorated with precious stones, plain or assembled from geometric details of different colors. There is hardly a girl who does not have such a dress.
Thanks to Yves Saint Laurent, the A-silhouette mini-dress became a symbol of the 60s and took pride of place in fashion history.

Details
A-line dress is suitable for almost any type of figure. It makes tall and slender more fragile, and helps girls with forms to hide some flaws. The classic length of the A-line dress is mini. But depending on your preferences, the length of the product may be slightly higher or slightly lower than the knee. Midi and maxi lengths require emphasis on the waist - belt or belt. But then all meaning is lost - the spirit of freedom inherent in this model.

The laconicism and simplicity of this dress require only the right accents from the hostess. If the dress is plain, then contrasting decor, large jewelry or bright tights will be appropriate.

How to sew
Sewing such a dress is not difficult. In patterns there are no intricate structural elements. As a rule, the details of the dress are one-piece. A-line cut is located between the straight and trapezoidal dress. The extension is quite insignificant and sometimes on the figure it looks like a straight dress. The main thing for an A-line dress is fabric!
