Throughout the history of the liver, an important role has always been assigned. In many cultures, religious mystical properties were even attributed to her.

For example, in Ancient Babylon, the liver was considered the central organ of man, the receptacle of his soul. In the Indo-Germanic language, the word "lip" simultaneously meant both "liver" and "life", that is, the liver was identified with life.
The famous doctor of antiquity Galen first described the basic functions of the liver, believing that the liver is the central energy organ that supports the work of the heart. Until the 17th century, the liver was considered the main organ of the human body.
Studies of modern scientists prove that the liver supports the vital activity of almost the entire body, and also affects many of its systems:
IMMUNE SYSTEM - neutralization of various foreign substances, in particular allergens, poisons and toxins;
ENDOCRINE SYSTEM - neutralization and removal of excess hormones, vitamins, and toxic metabolic products from the body, such as ammonia, phenol, ethanol, acetone and ketonic acids;
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM - providing the energy needs of the body with glucose, and the conversion of various energy sources into glucose;
CARBOHYDRATE EXCHANGE - maintaining a constant glucose level during the day (including during fasting);
VITAMIN EXCHANGE - replenishment and storage of certain vitamins and a number of trace elements. The liver is also directly involved in the metabolism of vitamins A, B, C, D, E, K, PP and folic acid;
One of its most important functions is BARRIER. Poisonous products of protein metabolism delivered to the liver with blood are neutralized in the liver. It provides cholesterol synthesis and regulation of lipid metabolism.
The main risk factors for the liver are poor ecology, the stresses that we experience in everyday life, sedentary work, low sports interest and the wrong nature of food - abuse of fast food, flour products and sweets. Due to a sedentary lifestyle, there is an excessive accumulation of fat in the liver cells, as well as damage to the liver cells. This can lead to the formation of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and even cirrhosis and liver failure.
The high prevalence of NAFLD is due to the fact that the liver may not express itself for a long time until serious problems arise with it. If NAFLD is nevertheless detected, then the use of preparations containing antioxidant vitamins, calcium preparations and hepatoprotectors based on essential phospholipids is indicated, for example, Essential Forte N.
However, NAFLD is a reversible disease. If there are extra pounds, a gradual weight loss and a special diet are indicated. In addition, add more greens and vegetables to the familiar menu, and reduce the consumption of fatty foods. Move more, walk.
